Sunday Roast at Coast

We’re not just saying this, the best Sunday roast in Southport might just belong to Coast.

Coast couldn’t be in a better location, as soon as you walk out of Birkdale station, you’ll see it across the road. Unmissable, with its beer garden and stunning balcony, there is always a great atmosphere.

A cloudy, autumn afternoon coaxed us inside but the atmosphere was just as good as ever!

Coast accommodates for everything; the bar is perfect for a coffee in the morning or a cocktail in the evening and the restaurant area has a modern, yet comfortable feel. They also have an upstairs ideal for hosting a special occasion (like the baby shower that was happening while we were there!) And the balcony is the hottest spot in Birkdale during the summer - literally!

From November, the balcony will be covered and heated, making it the place to go for a winter catch up.

Their Sunday menu is amazing - serving burgers, pastas and sea food. But of course, we went for the chicken and beef roast dinners. We’ve never seen such a well presented roast before! It was a mountain of incredible ingredients. And tasted as good as it looked. The meat was cooked perfectly, the vegetables were fresh, the roast potatoes were crispy and seasoned beautifully, and the gravy was exquisite - bursting with flavour to complement. With a side dish of cauliflower cheese to share, we couldn’t fault any of it.

For dessert we tried the sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream and the berry cheesecake. Both were divine and if we were not full, we could have eaten them again and again.

We’d heard great things about the roast at Coast and it certainly lived up to the hype! Jitka took great care of us. Her friendly nature and attention to detail was brilliant and this was matched by the rest of the staff at Coast.

Brasserie and Piano Bar

Steeped in history and situated on Lord Street, visiting The Grand feels like stepping back in time. The brasserie is decorated to look and feel like a luxury, five-star experience that would not be out of place in a scene from The Great Gatsby. Whether dining at the brasserie or sipping cocktails at Chloe's Piano Bar, you're sure to have a fantastic time here.

During our most recent visit, we were looked after by Grace, manager at The Grand. Her passion for quality customer service and creating an amazing experience was clear from the second we met. Whilst The Grand certainly lives up to its name, Grace has managed to create a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere to create the perfect balance between fine dining and a friendly neighbourhood restaurant.

Although The Grand is perfect for special occasions, we'd also highly recommend dropping by for a coffee and a bite to eat during the week. They have outdoor seating to watch the world go by on Lord Street and inside, they have soft jazz music playing, comfortable seating and you might even catch their resident pianist!

We sat down to try a couple of dishes from the set menu and a la carte menu. Firstly we tried the roast pork belly with salsa verde, harissa ketchup and crispy crackling. Honestly, this is probably the best pork belly we've ever tasted and was the stand-out dish. Second was the smoked haddock and salmon croquette with taramasalata and chimichurri which was an equally delicious starter. For our main course we had the lamb shank "hot pot". The meat fell off the bone and tasted divine. It comes with potato terrine, glazed carrot, red cabbage and minted lamb jus. You really do get what you pay for here. The quality of the ingredients was incredible and it is clear that the chefs at The Grand are highly skilled - we were blown away. To top it all off, we tried the creme brulee with an assortment of berries which tasted absolutely amazing.

The Grand really does have it all and we couldn't recommend it highly enough. In the evenings, you'll often be treated to a live pianist and the atmosphere is always buzzing. Chloe's Bar is serving your favourite cocktails, beers and more. The food from the brasserie is outstanding. Whether you're looking for somewhere to celebrate a special occasion or just to catch up with friends, definitely consider visiting The Grand!
